Dr. Shiana “Shi” Ferraro is a naturopathic physician at Personalized Natural Medicine in Newtown, Connecticut. She earned her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) from the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine, and her Master of Science in Acupuncture, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Bridgeport Acupuncture Institute. Her thesis for naturopathic medical school was written on the effectiveness of neurofeedback training in patients with epilepsy. While in graduate school, she became certified as a placenta encapsulation specialist (CPES) through the IPPA (International Placenta and Postpartum Association). She also began offering her services, and started working per diem in marketing. She later joined the Priority One Vitamins team as a UBCNM Student Representative and has since transitioned into being their Sales and Product Consultant for the Northeast.
Prior to entering graduate school, Dr. Ferraro earned her certification as a Medical Assistant while attending high school. She graduated at the top of her class from BOCES Technical School in Long Island, New York. She then worked in healthcare as a Certified Medical Assistant for multiple types of practitioners, conducted research for Dr. Donielle Wilson’s Book The Stress Remedy, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a focus in pre-naturopathic medicine from the University of Bridgeport.
Dr. Ferraro finds the fields of naturopathic and traditional Chinese medicine to be her calling, with principles that align with her own beliefs and moral standards around medicine and healthy living. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with patients and making sure they receive the most individualized effective natural treatment that she can provide. Her areas of focus in practice include pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, fertility, mental health, insomnia, epilepsy, and all-things related to stress and the gut-brain axis. Acupuncture serves as one of the multiple modalities Dr. Ferraro finds effective in practice and may recommend this treatment to her patients on an individual basis.
When she’s not working or reading up on the newest research, Dr. Ferraro likes to spend her free time hiking in the woods, tending to her plants, making a mess in the kitchen, and going out to concerts with her husband for date night. She also enjoys occasionally donating her hair to non-profit organizations that provide wigs for children in need.
