Yacon Syrup is advertised as one of those miracles solutions that will help you lose weight, reducing the effects of aging, and shine your car (well maybe not the last one). However is there evidence behind using this root?
Well in this study(Yacon syrup: beneficial effects on obesity) published in 2009 seems to shine some light on the matter. It turns out that Yucan root is full of a compound call Fructooligosaccharides aka FOS. FOS is very important prebiotic that the good bacterial in your stomach eat to reproduce. So once again that old Naturopathic heuristic “treat the gut” comes to light. It has long been know that the gut acts as important tool for the immune system. When the gut is happy it is able to remove waste and leave the body feeling clean. When the body is feeling clean it can focus on other areas that need improvement. More recent studies can be found on PubMed linking gut health to a whole host of diseases.
This root (which looks like a Sweet Potatoe) has been shown to help people lose weight by controlling the “full” button in stomachs and can help people avoid constipation. But many different foods can do the same. It is important to understand that there is no miracle pill or food out there that will help you lose the extra pounds. It comes up to you, the patient. Exercise, eating the right foods, and doing the things you love to do. In summery:
- Give the body what it needs
- Take out the trash (detoxication)
- Increase vitality
