Dr. Sarah Ouano, Naturopathic Physician
Lyme-Literate Naturopathic Physician
After completing her Bachelor of Science in Molecular Cell Biology from Dominican University of California in 2006, Dr. Ouano enrolled in conventional medical school. Two weeks before she was expecting to relocate for school however, she realized that this wasn’t the right path for her, and decided to take a year to explore other professions. She was fortunate enough to begin working as a medical assistant in an integrative medical practice with a holistic dentist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, and naturopathic physician on staff. It was then and there that she fell in love with naturopathic medicine, and within three weeks of applying to naturopathic medical school, she and her mother were driving across the country to Chicago, where she would begin her naturopathic education. The rest, as they say, is history!
Training and Licensure
Dr. Ouano earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL, in 2011, and went on to complete a one-year residency with Dr. Amy Derksen (a protege of Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt) in Seattle, WA. After several years in the Pacific Northwest, she relocated to Boston, MA, and eventually, New Haven, CT, where she found a home in the naturopathic community. Although she currently lives in Las Vegas, NV, she maintains licenses to practice naturopathic medicine in Connecticut and Vermont, and sees patients in both states via telemedicine.
Specializations and Memberships
Her residency with Dr. Derksen was key in shaping who Dr. Ouano is as a clinician today. Her experience managing chronic illness, particularly Lyme and tick-borne disease, PANS/PANDAS, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, led her to co-author several medical and children’s texts about these complex illnesses, and she is excited to be returning to clinical care once again.
Dr. Ouano is a certified lactation support counselor and certified wellness counselor, and has completed additional training in infant food sensitivities, LGBTQ affirming care, trauma-informed care, and bariatric surgery support. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and the Connecticut Naturopathic Physicians Association (CNPA).
Personal Life
Dr. Ouano, her wife, two young children, two doggos, and lionhead bunny love living in the southwestern desert, where they can be found cooling off at the local splash pad, eating their way through Sin City’s eclectic food scene, and planning their next trip to the Happiest Place on Earth. When she is not busy chasing her rambunctious preschoolers, she enjoys Broadway musicals, vintage typewriter repair, and getting lost in used bookstores.
