Dr. Brody’s Natural Approach to Yeast Infections
Yeast infections can happen anywhere your body touches the outside environment. This is usually referred to as a mucocutaneous candidiasis infection and not a full-blown infection of your blood. These infections can take place on your skin, in your vaginal tract, or in your digestive tract. They can cause discharge, gas, bloating, brain fog, painful urination and an entire list of other symptoms depending on where this yeast takes up residence. It is interesting to note that blood type O’s and non-secretors (FUT2 – or Lewis b-) are predisposed to these types of infections. But what is causing the infection? I will use a metaphor to explore the root cause of yeast infections. If you have a garbage can filled with smelly trash and beginning to attract flies, there are two things you can do:
1: Figure out a way to get rid of the flies,
Or
2: Remove the garbage in the trash can. This is the same approach that must be taken with yeast infections. Most naturopathic physicians are taught this concept of “terrain medicine” and we know best how to help you navigate your way back to health.
