Symptoms and Natural Treatments
The Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat, or HEENT for short, are home to some common yet potentially conditions. Allergies, Cataracts, tinitus, headaches, strep and more all take place in the HEENT.
Conditions of the Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat (HEENT for short) usually occur with some form of allergy or food sensitivity. When you have symptoms in this area of the body it can make it hard to function. Dry eyes, itchy eyes, ear infections, running nose, post nasal drip, sinus congestion, sore throat, and tonsil inflammation can put a damper on your day and healing. This is one area of the body that most people forget about until symptoms occur. With all my HEENT patients, I try to give the body the proper nutrients and natural medications. By removing the underlying cause of the problem instead of treating the symptoms, I try to get your symptoms over quickly so you can return to your normal life sooner.
Common HEENT Issues
-
Allergies
Allergies are a common condition that Americans face, be it from indoor allergies or seasonal allergies. While the two offer up very different allergens, the symptoms are generally the same. With symptoms like sneezing, hives, wheezing, a runny nose, watery or red eyes, rash and fatigue, having allergies can be surprisingly dehabilitating.
-
Cataracts
Cataracts typically occur later in life, and while allopathic surgeries are usually a safe and effect treatment, Dr. Brody’s natural approach aims for prevention. Dr. Brody can do a DNA analysis to determine your chances and begin a treatment plan to help prevent blurry vision or even vision loss.
-
Common Cold
Getting the common cold is a good thing. It means that your body is healthy enough to mount an immune response. If someone is too sick to fight the cold, they symptoms still occur but as a longer, low-grade infection. The symptoms can be difficult to deal with, but treatments such as Cold Calm and other home remedies can make fighting the common cold easier.
-
Headaches/Migraines
Headaches and migraines can be caused for a number of reasons, differing from person to person. Some of the common causes include inflammation, enviromental factors and hormonal fluctuations. Migraines can take place over four stages. Prodomal is first, and with symptoms of nausau and sensitivity to lights, smells and sounds it acts as a warning sign. The aura phase is second, and only happens to a quarter of migraine sufferers, and it contains visual distortions. The third phase is the most common, and consists of a severe headache. The last phase is called postdrome, and it consists of feeling mental exaustion as the body returns itself back to normal.
-
Ringing in Ears (Tinnitus)
Tinnitus, aka Ringing in the ears, can typically be attributed to inflammation in some form. Diseases, medications, toxins, or even some of your dietary choices can create the inflammation tied to tinnitus. By finding and treating the source of the inflammation, Dr. Brody can help the body cleanse and reduce the ringing.
-
Sinus Congestion
Sinus congestion can cause a runny nose, post-nasal drip, cough, fever, headaches, pressure between the eyes, pain under the eyes and other issues. These symptoms typically happen because mucus is blocking the nasal and sinus chambers, and can be caused by allergies, colds, foods, a deviated septum or even medications.
-
Sore Throat
A sore throat is caused by the body trying to get rid of left-over immune cells or toxins in your throat and tonsils. There are a plethora of natural medications that can be used to treat a sore throat. Also, starting treatment quickly can help prevent or lessen the symptoms. Dr. Brody has some easy at-home remedies for symptom relief, including the Wet Sock Treatment.
