Personalized Natural Medicine is a clinic established by Dr. Robert Brody in 2017 to help bring naturopathy to a new audience. Dr. Brody started as a resident at the Center of Excellence under Dr. Peter D’Adamo, founder of the Blood Type Diet, and saw first-hand the benefits of a personalized treatment plan. As a staff member and instructor, Dr. Brody saw how using epigenetics helped the COE treat their patients as individuals needing unique solutions instead of using blanket solutions. Generative medicine, or naturopathic functional medicine, was able to treat the denizens of Bridgeport. So why wouldn’t it work in Newtown?
Starting a Clinic from Scratch
While the clinic had a humble beginning, Dr. Brody has been working hard to make sure he expands his technology and tools to offer his patients the widest range of healthcare possible. His oldest patients often joke that every time they come in, there’s something new. Within the last month, Dr. Brody has added a second exam room and started a residency program. On staff is Dr. Shiana Ferraro, an acupuncture specialist who graduated from the University of Bridgeport and passed her board certification exams. PNM is now able to offer more in-depth acupuncture sessions and visits in the new infrared sauna.
However, one of the biggest problems Dr. Brody saw with his clinic was insurance. Most practices that offer natural medicine are cash-based, due to the difficulties that can arise with dealing with insurance companies. However, this can alienate a large portion of the population who may need financial assistance to get the healthcare they need.
Affordable Healthcare
At PNM, we like to say “healthcare shouldn’t hurt”. Patients shouldn’t have to empty bank accounts or fall into dangerous financial situations because they need medical help. If we let our bodies or minds fall into disarray, it can lead to complications down the road. Just like ignoring a blinking light on our car dashboard can lead to an expensive mechanic bill, ignoring the signs our body gives can lead to serious medical issues. And with an insurance-based practice, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to take care of that blinking light before it becomes something worse.
With some help from Dr. Natalie Colicci, Personalized Natural Medicine was running at full speed and in-network with multiple insurances. Newtown’s Chamber of Commerce has been incredibly supportive, both in welcoming Dr. Brody and actively working to help improve the town for its residents. And the community of Newtown has been nothing but wonderful, encouraging Dr. Brody to find new ways to help give back.
By opening a clinic here in Newtown, Dr. Brody is hoping to spread naturopathic medicine out into a new community. In a town rich with traditions like the Labor Day Parade, the tree lighting in Ram’s Pasture, the Duck Race and our various 5Ks, our health shouldn’t have to be a concern. And with a natural, insurance-based clinic in the heart of Newtown, it gives us another opportunity to give back to the community so they can flourish with love and creativity.
Insurance Coverage
Personalized Natural Medicine is currently in-network with Aetna, Anthem, and Cigna. Dr. Ferraro is credentialed with Husky. Personalized Natural Medicine is not able to accept Medicare. Please be prepared to get a referral from your primary care physician if coming from out of state.
